Axel Krygier is back with "Hombre De Piedra", a new album and music video!

The brilliant musician/composer/singer from Buenos Aires tells us the fantastic and hilarious story of a bigfoot from the Stone Age, who travels through the history of mankind, from its early days to the 2.0 era. A delirious road movie about the paradoxes of civilization.

Watch the first music video for the title track "Hombre De Piedra". Shot in his backyard with the help of director Mariano Mucci and visual artist Ian Kornfeld, the video is a combination of HD formats, Super 8 and animation revolving around a map of the sky drawn up by the first painters of mankind.

SKIP&DIE return with much awaited 2nd album,

SKIP&DIE return with much awaited 2nd album, "Cosmic Serpents"

... and an extensive world tour 2015

After setting stages on fire around the planet during their successful two-year Riots In The Jungle tour, pan-tropical future bass band SKIP&DIE are back with an exhilarating new album, entitled “COSMIC SERPENTS” - luring their audiences into a landscape somewhere between paradise, the apocalypse and beyond.

With its re-imagining of global music, irresistible rhythms and beats, acoustic instruments, field recordings and spacey synths, SKIP&DIE’s upcoming album, “COSMIC SERPENTS”, reveals a poetic sonic collage that toys with ideas of transient life, looming death, and the notion that our collective DNA coils throughout eternity like a cosmic serpent.

Set for release March 2015, the new album was written and recorded in Brazil, Egypt, Argentina, Colombia, La Reunion island, South Africa, Portugal and the Netherlands. It incorporates a rich variety of musical styles (from digital cumbia, creole maloya, brazilian rasterinha and electro chaabi - to dub, footwork and psychedelic rock) which have been inventively merged into an intimately layered SKIP&DIE universe.

SKIP&DIE consist of South African songwriter, vocalist and visual artist Catarina Aimée Dahms aka Cata.Pirata, producer Jori Collignon on keys and FX, Gino Bombrini on percussion & guitar and Daniel Rose on guitar and other string instruments. They are joined on "COSMIC SERPENTS" by a handful of exciting guests from around the globe.

Maïa Vidal's new single & video:

Maïa Vidal's new single & video: "Bones", a voracious love song...

... verging on the cannibalistic: "Skin so soft I could tear it off / to reveal your platelets..."

Bones, Maïa Vidal's new music video and first single from her upcoming album "You're The Waves", due to come out in the Spring of 2015.

In this first track off her new album, the young American singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist deconstructs falling in love by stripping it of its romance and literature, exploring the visceral curiosity and desire that one feels upon falling for someone. To the point of craving to expose the inside of the human body to air!

The Bones single heralds the arrival of "You’re the Waves", Maïa Vidal's third album in as many years. Due to come out in March 2015, it was co-produced by the much-buzzed Brooklyn-based Van Rivers (of Fever Ray, Glasser, Matthew Dear and  Blonde Redhead fame).

The video was written and directed by Maïa herself (who has either co-directed or written all her previous music videos, including Follow Me, which was nominated for Best Pop Video at the UK Music Video Awards, opposite Lana del Rey, Rihanna and Justice).

Going back to the lyrics, Maïa sees the song as "a demented sonnet about an impossibly true encounter of two multi-celled organisms kissing in the moonlight". She describes the process as "a voracious appetite to discover everything about the other person, to see deep within, to interact not only on the surface but quite possibly below the muscle tissue as well. That curiosity is insatiable, it calls for something impossible but at the same time deeply human, a desire to know everything about the person we love - I'd like to make a home in your frontal lobe / and lounge all day in your memories - and to be invited into every corner of their body."

Juana Molina gets award, directs new video...

... and is coming to Europe to play 2 special shows in Paris and Bari

Juana Molina's latest album Wed 21 was ecstatically welcomed by the press around the world (see quotes below). Her native Argentina has not lagged behind, as Wed 21  has just earned the Carlos Gardel Award (the equivalent of a Grammy) for Best Alternative Rock and Pop Album of 2013.

On the video front, Juana has made a giant leap forward by co-directing the eerie and supremely charming "Lo decidí yo" ("The decision was mine", directed with Mario Caporalli). This 3rd video from the Wed 21 sees her performing considerable, ninja-like physical feats (thanks to a chroma key which she set up with lengths of fabric in her back yard).

Juana Molina will also bring her lively, exciting live show to Paris, where she has been invited by the prestigious Fondation Cartier, and to Bari Festival.

From the press on Juana Molina's Wed 21 album

A universal playfulness that’s entirely her own.  (Washington Post)

Her music still perches on the verge of delirium  (NY Times)

It's as if extra-terrestrials have had a bash at making contemporary Earthling pop music but didn't quite nail it. Fascinating, enjoyable and original, (The Independent)

On an evolutionary journey of her own devising…Transportative, like a fantastic fable…like all good storytellers, Molina's gift is in the delivery  (Pitchfork)

This might be her best work yet  (Mixmag)

Eerie, hypnotic, building to increasingly haunting heights (Spin)

Colourful worlds with buzzing electronics swarming around psychedelic rhythms (Uncut)

Always in motion, this effortless fusion of airy melody and playful eccentricity follows a perpetually fluid course (Mojo)

Like other great popular music musicians who toe the avant-garde line—Tom Waits comes to mind, as does Radiohead—there is a vision here (Pop Matters)

Composer/lutenist Jozef Van Wissem to release new album on Crammed's Made To Measure series

Composer/lutenist Jozef Van Wissem to release new album on Crammed's Made To Measure series

The New York-based Dutchman's very personal work was recently showcased in his award-winning soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive". Both Jarmusch & Yasmine Hamdan are guesting on the new album.

The entrancing "It Is Time For You To Return" is Jozef Van Wissem's brand-new album (his first for Crammed Discs' revived Made To Measure series), and functions as a perfect introduction to his music which, this time around, is enhanced by a new feature, as Jozef wrote and performed hypnotic vocals for some of the nine pieces.

The album also benefits from the presence of young Chilean filmmaker Domingo Garcia-Huidobro, who contributed electronic programming on a couple of tracks. And Jim Jarmusch (on guitar) & Yasmine Hamdan (on vocales) appear on one of the songs.

"It Is Time For You To Return" will be coming out on November 10, 2014.
Jozef Van Wissem will be extensively touring around Europe and the USA, check the dates here.

Crammed Discs is happy to welcome CHANCHA VIA CIRCUITO!

Crammed Discs is happy to welcome CHANCHA VIA CIRCUITO!

Check out the first video from the forthcoming new album!

Argentian producer Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuito returns with his long awaited third album, Amansara. Originally coming out of Buenos Aires' famed digital cumbia scene, Chancha has notoriously expanded beyond those boundaries to forge unprecedented mergers between Brazilian rhythms, Paraguyan harp, Andean mysticism and the solitude of Argentinian folklore - all processed through his own futuristic strain of  electronic music.  Chancha's sound is without question truly unique and instantly recognizable, to the extent that he has become a key reference point for an entire crop of artists which have begun to carry his genes.
Chancha Via Circuito new album, Amansara, will be coming out after the Summer, but you can see the first video "Coplita" here.

"Chez les Aborigènes", the first single off "Ex-Futur Album"...

... the avant-pop opus from 1980-83 by Véronique Vincent & Aksak Maboul

Written & recorded by Véronique Vincent (Honeymoon Killers vocalist) and Marc Hollander (Aksak Maboul & Crammed Discs founder), in collaboration with Vincent Kenis (Aksak Maboul/Congotronics), this album was announced in Crammed's early catalogues, but was never completed. It has now been assembled (and partly retrieved from demos, rough mixes and cassette tapes), and will come out in October 2014, with a slight delay of 30 years.

The single also comprises a new remix by great electronic music duet Easy & C.O.U. (who are stalwarts of the Nordic skweee scene).

Juana Molina, SKIP&DIE and Yasmine Hamdan will all perform at the UK's premier festival this week.

SKIP&DIE, who are working on their new album to be released in early 2015, have completed a last video for their acclaimed album "Riots In The Jungle". The video was just premiered by Vice's music channel Noisey, in the UK, Germany, France and The Netherlands. You can watch it here. The band will be performing on the Silver Hayes Stage on Thursday 26th, 2:00 a.m.

Juana Molina, whose recent performances at Primavera Sound and Villette Sonique delighted the audiences, is performing at Glastonbury (Sunday 29th, Park Stage, 2:00 p.m.), before going on to play Roskilde Festival, Nuits de Fourvière, Pohoda Festival and Summer Stage in New York. All dates can be found here.
Juana Molina's latest video 'Sin guia, no", shot in Tierra del Fuego, can be watched here.

She will be also appearing on BBC2 TV and BBC6 Music, broadcast live from the Festival.
Here's a video of Yasmine Hamdan performing earlier this month at the Royal Albert Hall (Elgar Room)

Kasai Allstars' wild new album now on preorder

Kasai Allstars' wild new album now on preorder

The long-awaited 2nd LP by the mindblowing Congotronics collective from Kinshasa, DRC, will come out as a 2CD and a limited-ed. vinyl

Filmed during the recordings, "The Chief's Enthronement", the first video off the album was premiered on Pitchfork.

The album just got an enthusiastic and extensive write-up in The Wire Magazine who, among many other things, points out that "this is why Kasai Allstars connect so strongly with us. When these musicians get on stage it's easy to draw lines to VU-inspired rock, dub and the tracier areas of club music. Moreaover, nowadays we get Js and software wranglers, whereas these guys handle chunky, often self-built instruments, physically creating the music. It's exhilarating just to watch this much physical work from a musician."

The 2CD and 1LP versions of "Beware the Fetish" can now be preordered HERE
